What to look for when inspecting a 1991 Diesel Delica

I always start with all the fluids. Oil in the engine, transmission and gear boxes.

    I neeeeeed one!

This is highly dependant on where you are. Access to parts, maintenance stuff and even dedicated shops is best in the PNW. Vancouver BC has several places that either are exclusive Delica of cater to them. If properly maintained they will go several hundred thousand miles/kms. I would buy...

The cold Northwest weather is here. Who else can't start their Delica?

It is not nearly cold enough in the NW yet to have a gel issue. Last year, with all the snow etc. we had I never used anti gel and never had a problem. You may have something as simple as a weak battery. Or you may have an issue with your glow plug system. Check delica.ca for information on...

What to look for when inspecting a 1991 Diesel Delica

Most common issue is heads and head gasket. A couple of simple test are to get it running, warm and check the pressure on the main hose from the radiator. If it is rock hard it means their is an engine leak that is presurizing the cooling system. Also, check the coolant expansion tank. If it...

    Bash Plate experiences?

I have the FTS stuff, good stuff, along with all their products. As mentioned above, they do not keep things from going up into the radiator. Both Jaos and Mitsubishi made ones that both protect and vent air into the radiator. Both are hard to find. If you are patient you should be able to...

Well I thought I had an importer here in Portland but I was wrong

I think Steven is an acquired taste. I have heard people complain about the list of work he always suggests. I firmly believe that he just wants to make sure that anything he touches (puts his name on) is done properly with no short cuts. I have used him for everything for the entire time...

Well I thought I had an importer here in Portland but I was wrong

I don't know what your budget is, but I would just buy a van from Rising Sun. They import only the best ones, go through them mechanically and they are ready to go after that. They may seem expensive, but I firmly believe in the end you pay about what they are asking. Case in point. I bought...

    Radio Installation

I think I saw a stock wiring harness on ebay. Maybe that is the best place to start.

Tutorial: EGR and Boost Gauge Install

I drive to keep the EGT below 1000. Basically I have found that cruising at 60-65 on the flats is fine. As the grade increases so do the EGT's, so I just back off at around 900. If you don't have a guage I would just advise you drive with common sense. The further you put your foot into it...

Well I thought I had an importer here in Portland but I was wrong

Do you already have a van and are just looking for an importer?

    Radio Installation

You can either direct wire using the diagram or get and ISO adapter (better in the long run). The adapters are available on line. There are a couple good sources on eBay.uk.

Tutorial: EGR and Boost Gauge Install

The trans temp is from a sensor that is attached to a trans bolt. I attached it to the bolts that hold on the solenoid that controls shifting. So I measures the temp of the unit, not necessarily the fluid. This has worked out ok, but I think if I had done the EGR and boost gauge first I would...

    L300 Hi Roof Ladder

They show up very rarely here or on delica.ca. When they do it is usually in CA. I finally gave up and ordered a new one from Rising Sun.

    Bosch fog/flood's need properly wired

Not sure how they were originally wired, but you only need a power and ground wire. I replaced the POS stock ones on my van, but they had already been converted to two wires apparently.

Seeking out a slight oil drip.

Try registering and posting on Delica.ca. We are still newbies here and you will likely get more help there right now. But be sure to repost the results here so we can start building our own knowledge pool.

    Turbo Oil leak...

Here is a link to my post on Delica.ca. It includes the alternator part numbers. http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18110&p=134289#p134289

    Turbo Oil leak...

I had a similar issue, but mine didn't sound so significant. Mine turned out to be the oil lines going into and out of the alternator. Had a small leak, alternator was spraying it of the other stuff. Just enough to cause caking, not run off. Had it repaired and have been told this is a...

BTW, I saw your Delica when I was in Vancouver about a month back. I was visiting Rising Sun and it was at a shop next door. Very nice.
