Hey ! Thanks for the note. I'm out in Montauk on Long Island, grew up central around the Nassau/Suffolk border. I make the trip out to NJ whenever I can as well, less nowadays that I'm further, but when it's good its worth it !

Help me choose a family SUV

Big fan of this forum and deeply value all the insights and opinions I find here when it comes to my L300. Today I'm posting on a separate topic. The wife and I had our first real baby (my second after the Delica ;)) and she wants to upgrade from her little whip, a 2008 Honda Civic to a family...

    Lost Power Steering

Let me give you the full background (sorry, its gonna be long) in case you might have other suggestions for me to check out, because the immediate consequence of the below situation was lost power steering, but I'm worried something else and totally separate might need checking. The only other...

Finished! Rebuilding the OEM alternator... (long w/ pics)

I take it your not married or living with a life partner ?? Because my wife would KILL me if I put a freshly painted car part in the oven to cure the paint faster

Finished! Rebuilding the OEM alternator... (long w/ pics)

Ahh, just a bit late actually. I FINALLY got mine back yesterday and will be reinstalling it today. I really don't like letting other people handle repairs and the like on my rig. Nonetheless, thanks for this detailed thread @sk66 The person I used to rebuild my alternator struggled to source...

    Fuel tank capacity

@active.world would be a good person to chime in on this discussion. He's kept diligent records of his fuel consumption to the extent that he created his own custom spreadsheet of all the info. I believe he said over 100 fill ups tracked.

First L300: General Advice on service.

The 4d56 is prone to overheating. A 3-in-1 Exhaust Temp, Coolant Temp, and Boost gauge is a widely suggested tool to monitor your van while driving and keeping it healthy. This is the one I got as per many of this forum's user's suggestions, especially if you begin dabbling with power increases...

Did I fry my alternator ?

Thank you both for your insights. It seems I'm operating normally then and probably just being overly sensitive to normal stuff. One other question, that black starter fusible link over the battery...120A ?! Really ? That's a lot, just surprised. And it's only in play during the start up ? I...

Did I fry my alternator ?

I'm reviving this post much to my dismay. I thought I had this alternator situation in the bag, but ever since getting all in order I totally noticed that my dash voltmeter never exceeded 13V. I didn't at first suspect an alternator issue because: The lights on the dash weren't flashing like...

Did I fry my alternator ?

I can certainly appreciate this note. For me the value is in the education.

Did I fry my alternator ?

You are both correct of course, and my apologies for not being more effective with the search tool. I normally am. The red herring, and reason why I thought my situation was unique was the coolant spill, followed immediately by a faulty alternator/connection. I was sure it was shorting because...

Did I fry my alternator ?

Apologies for another alternator thread, but I felt this was worthy of a new post. My troubles with it began here. Thanks to @stevenlee I got the alternator back in place with new bolts that I had either snapped or beat to death while removing. Details on that in the above linked thread...

    Alternator Clamp Bolt Snapped

So I finally got the new bolts. The mounting bolt that I beat like a mad man, and the clamping bolt that I sheared. Put everything back together. Unfortunately, I spilled some coolant on the alternator while moving a hose back into place that was in the way. I blew the alternator out with...

    Alternator Clamp Bolt Snapped

Mods feel free to delete this thread, but I'll update anyway just in case someone else ends up in this scenario. I described getting the pivot bolt out in this thread so I won't repeat that part, but it took me at least 6 hours of frustration before I got it free. It was an absolute bitch to...
